Numerical methods implemented in PeliGRIFF
PeliGRIFF offers different physical models at the micro and meso scales relying on the appropriate numerical methods. Essentially, PeliGRIFF implements:
- a Discrete Element Method (DEM) for the dynamics of granular media made of convex particles, both spherical and angular,
- a Distributed Lagrange Multiplier / Fictitious Domain (DLM/FD) method for the simulation of suspension flows at the micro scale,
- a two-way Euler / Lagrange (DEM-CFD) method for the simulation of suspension flows at the meso scale,
- a Level Set approach for fluid/fluid flows,
- the solution of the energy conservation equation for heat transfer.
The aforementioned numerical methods are implemented either with unstructured Finite Element or structured Finite Volume on regular staggered grids and with various time algorithms. All codes are fully-parallel using MPI standard and run on big supercomputers.
